Tiruchi's most famous famed landmark Rock Fort is 83-m
high rock which is the only outcrop in the otherwise flat in land
of the city. The most amazing factabout the rock is that is one
of the oldest in the world-approximately 3,800 million years,
which makes it as the rocks of Green land and older than the Himalayas.
SRIRANGAM TEMPLE
The district's most important pilgrim centure is located in an
island just 7 kms from Tiruchi. Srirangam, surrounded by the waters
of river kaveri on oneinside and its tributary kolliodam on the
other, is a 600 acre island-town enclosed within the seven walls
of the gigantic sriranganatha swami Temple.
TIRUVANAIKKAVAL TEMPLE
Situated 2 km east of Srirangam, this beautiful Siva temple steals
the show from the larger Ranganathaswami temple due to this excellent
architectural design. The temple is named after the elephant which
is believed to have worshipped Lord Siva here. Installed under
an ancient Jaambu tree, the lingam is partially submerged by water
and is meant to represent God incarnate as Water.
MUKKOMBU
Mukkombu is a beautiful excursion centre, just 18 kms from Truchirappalli
on the riverbanks of Cauvery river and Kollidam river. This place
is called upper dam. It is an attraction for the tourists and
also for the people of all ages by its park, greenish garden,
and boating facility.
KALLANAI
Kallanai Dam is built by Karikaalan. It is 15 Km from Central Bustand.
With due care bathing and swimming is possible in this dam. Viewing
this dam from top view is very good.
